compare 2.5" to 3.5" hard drives?

Hi group,

Has anyone seen any tables comparing 2.5" hard drives to 3.5 hard drives? Mostly interested in longevity.

I have heard that the 3.5 drive will out last the 2.5 drives. I have not seen this myself.

Thanks for your time.

Mechanically, I think you're right. The fastest 3.5 drives usually can be made faster that 2.5 ones but ssds are turning that on it's head.

That can depend on how they're (ab)used. The 2.5" drives are intended for portable devices that get bounced around a bit even while the drive is running and have limited cooling. They survive a lot better in that environment than would a 3.5" drive.
