Symptoms:
LEDs light up
CD slave lights up for a second
floppy does not light up
no video
system will not boot.

Story:
The system ran fine for 2 days, occasionally getting stuck in what appeared to be sleep mode. only way out was to remove AC power from the system. Then one morning, it didn't wake up. No POST, no video, nothing.

i did get it to boot once after that. we ended up removing the battery, and the system came alive. but then that night, it froze (KDE visible, nothing working), and hasn't come back since. i have replaced that battery as well.

I have tried replacing everything i had. tried every troubleshooting tip i knew or aquired from compaq and other forums to no avail.

Any suggestions?

Older compaq machines use to have a funny way to get into the BIOS.

Does the board seem to be dead?

i wouldn't know how to find out if the board is dead, sadly.

when it came back to life the last time, i update the bios without any issues, and reset everything i needed to (time, boot order, etc).

it's either F2, F10 or DEL to get into the bios when it's running.... but she don't run.
