I have an old compaq storageworks 4100 raid array. It works fine. I can install the drivers, and the array config utility in windows, and everything works great. And I have several Fiber Channel HBA's. so...This is actually a 2 part question.


1. Has anyone gotten the storageworks 4000/4100 to work with *any* fiber channel card other than compaq? I have a qlogic QLA220F I would like to use with the array, but I cannot get it to "see" the array I created with the windows array configuration utility (using the compaq card to create it.) And yes, I set it to allow "all" connections in the permissions.

2. Has anyone had much luck getting the compaq fiber channel card to work in linux? 2.4 or 2.6 there is an open source driver for it (on source forge) and it has been merged into the mainstream 2.6 kernel (though it doesnt compile on 2.6.13.3... I have submitted a bug report) I am trying my best to get this array working with linux, hopefully with cards other than the compaq as well, but it is not looking good.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, i have the same array and a similar card and i've found that compaq/hp is not worth the trouble ;(.



Your array can ONLY be controlled by the 1gb 66mh/64bit compaq fc card. It is a proprietay fc-esq protocol. I verified this by calling Qlogic support and Compaq support.

The second part of your problem i also have bad news. I bought the array on ebay for the very same reason to run w/ linux however the card is NOT compatible w/ most linux distros. They do have some source available on their website (found after 9 years of digging) but i can't for the life of me get it to compile succesfully on Debian, redhat 9 and up, fedora, ubuntu, and suse 9 and up.

If you get the source to work please let me know, the proprietary cards tehmselves can be had cheaply on ebay.
