Compaq Storage Works 8/16 cartridge Autolaoder
 

Hi All,

I am having a problem with Compaq storageworks 8/16 cartridge autolaoder Tape drive. I can see the device as /dev/st0 and the following message is dispalyd, wheever I issue tar backup commnad.
My Linux is Redhat Linux 7.3

# tar -cvf /dev/st0 /tax

message :

tar: /dev/st0: Cannot open: Read-only file system
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

the above filesystem tax is not a readonly file system.

[root@sgpwcc1 tax]# ls -l / |grep dr |grep tax
drwxrwx--- 10 root tax 4096 Jun 10 20:10 tax

Unable to troubleshoot the problem. Please let me know, in case if you need more information. Appreciate your help. Also let me know, whether this tape drive is supported for Redhat Linux 7.3 or not?

Do you have write permissions to the tape drive device /dev/st0?

The SCSI tape utilities come in handy if not already installed on your system.

Shouldn't have any problems with the tape drive in linux.
