I was trying to clone a Dell server (not using LVM) to a HP blade server (with LVM partitions).
Basically, I rebuild the file system on the HP with LVM (RHEL3U6) and untar the file system one by one from the Dell server onto the HP - all under rescue mode. After that I ran mkinitrd and build a new initrd image. Something like:

mkinitrd --preload=cciss --preload=lvm-mod initrd-2.x.x.ELsmp.img 2.x.x
yet when I boot up, it complained about unknown file system 0x8e and when I press any key it went back to grub.
I end up copying /boot from another blade server and re-ran mkinitrd to solve this issue.
I am just curious how does other people deal with cloning system between different hardwares? any steps/files I should've checked?
