Exclamation cloning hard drives with RH8

Hi my friends! -- In short terms, I have this notes:
1.- I need to clone my hard drive with RH8 as I used to make it with my Win98SE with a known program (DOS)
2.-The reason is, that I have a lot of problems compiling my kernel, specially now with the NVidia drivers.
3.-Yes! I'm a newbie, and I'm affraid that I could make a serious or tremendous mistake, and lost my whole original HD with all my inversion (in time) updating it.
4-Having a cloned HD could give me some kind of "liberty" to make a lot of experiments modifing some files that I precise to do it, but not sure that will work again.
5.- Ohh! I wish I could find something like: "Complete idiot's guide to clone a hard drive with linux OS"
6.-Thank you for your kindly attention.
P:S: Obviously, the cloned HD would work in the same machine.
