Chipset

I've been reading that linus reads the chip set and not the motherboard. So what is the best brand chipset/motherboard combo.
I was considering a AMD 64

linux has pretty good chipset support if you stick to the major guys, esp nvidia and VIA, but then I have it on an SiS set here as well... The nvidia nforce 4 with AMD 64 should be nice... I'm still on nforce 3 on my A64....

I was going to build just an old junker to start with (never used linux before) but now i think i'm going to build an all out system seeing that there are some pretty good games out and more coming.
