charging the iPod

I have successfully mounted my iPod using a firewire card. Everything shows up at the mountpoint, and I can transer files just fine. The problem is that I should be able to charge my iPod with it connected just to the card, but this isn't the case: it definately loses power over time, so it's not charging. Could anyone give me some help on this? Is there some kernel option that I may have overlooked? Thanks in advance.

What typ e of firewire card are you using? I am not 100% but some PCMCIA firewire cards do not power devices. I recently purchased a cheap one for my brother and on its casing (it sticks out of his laptop like an inch) it has a small hole that an AC adapter (not supplied with the card) can fit into. The firewire card that I used to use on my old PC (windowsxp) did not charge a friends ipod for example. Check the documentation for your card to make sure it can power devices.

It's a PCI card, so I don't think that that applies. Here's the product description; from what I gather, I should be able to supply power.
