Question Change hardware order of detection/discovery?

Hi!

I'm having some trouble making my onboard sound card work properly with ALSA under Ubuntu Edgy Eft (6.10 beta) kernel 2.6.17.10. The problem, as far as I can tell, is that my TV tuner card is mistakenly identified as a sound card, and most of the time this occurs before my onboard sound card is detected. Consequently, cat /proc/asound/cards returns this:
Code:
 0 [CX8811         ]: CX88x - Conexant CX8811
                      Conexant CX8811 at 0xfa000000
 1 [CK804          ]: NFORCE - NVidia CK804
                      NVidia CK804 with ALC850 at 0xfe02d000, irq 225
I have tried various techniques to remedy this - playing around with alsa-base, blacklist and an .asoundrc file but none of them seems to have much effect on this. Sound is still working properly in only about 1 in 4 reboots.

What can I do to permanently change the order in which these two cards are discovered, short of removing my tuner card?

Not sure how ubuntu does it, but you may be able to write a rule for it;

SOLVED... sort of

Well - I haven't really had time to tinker with this lately, but I have noticed now that for the past eight(!) reboots, sound has been working correctly, even though I have taken no further steps to correct anything.
Maybe the issue - whether related to seeing the TV card as a sound card, or the .asoundrc being ignored - was simply due to the fact that Edgy Eft is still in development.

Either way, the problem has been solved... sort of anyway.

EDIT: Nope, not completely. It just started malfunctioning again. Oh well, it'll probably be sorted out.
