Centos 6.4 crashes while running RSYNC

Hello,

while running this rsync script; (backup of / directory to remote mounted NFS share)
the server becomes inresponsible after some time..

rsync -aAXv /* $1 --exclude dev/* --exclude root/* --exclude var/lib/mysql/* --exclude proc/* --exclude sys/* --exclude tmp/* --exclude run/* --exclude mnt/* --exclude media/* --exclude lost+found --exclude var/lib/pacman/sync/*

The network card's led is ON, but cannot reach the machine, need to physically reboot the machine.

In the log = Nothing :S

/var/log/messages

anyone an idea?

Try doing your rsync in smaller chunks and see if that helps.

Sometimes its working.. very strange.. its about 1/10 of the time..

TenTenths 09-18-2013 02:44 AM

Could be just the sheer volume of files that rsync is trying to work out checksums etc. for.

Crashes like that are often caused by hardware instability.
Does the machine fall over from anything else?

Thanks for your reply;

When I do a: dd if=/dev/sda2 of=/mnt/nfsshare , it crashes also sometimes..

When I do a: dd if=/dev/sda2 of=/mnt/localdiskmount , it doesnt freeze (untill now), I will do a memtest86 and let you know..

But I think it is related to NFS?

Memtest86 Passed, no errors..

I Think I managed to fix it;

I removed the PCI Ethernet card (SMC)

I enabled the onboard ethernet card, and enabled in Centos.

Since then, no problems..
