CentOS 5 on Dell 2550 / Boot Floppy?
Hello,
I am trying to install CentOS 5 on a Dell PowerEdge 2550 server. I have burned an ISO image to CD and verified that it works on a regular PC. However, I am unable to get the 2550 to boot off the CD. It just doesn't see anything there. I'm unsure if there is something physically wrong with the 2550 CDROM itself, or if there are special BIOS settings that need to be configured to boot off of an ISO image. I've enabled every CDROM related BIOS entry that I can find with no luck. If anyone has familiarity with these systems and can help, please do!
My second choice is to boot off of a floppy and then run the CentOS 5 install from the CD-ROM. My understanding is that the CentOS 5 kernel is too big to fit on a floppy nowadays. USB booting from a key is not an option on a system as old as this.
Does anyone know of a workaround to get this thing booted and have Linux installed on it? Are there any "trimmed down" floppy images that will do this? Any help at all regarding this would be greatly appreciated. If any more detailed information related to BIOS settings, etc. is needed let me know.
Best Regards,
Tom
