cdrom issues
I'm running GNOME 2.8 with magicdev in Arch Linux 0.7 (2.6.9 kernel) and I'm having probs with my dvd drive. It's there, CDs with a filesystem automount and work fine, when I right-click the icon and press eject a sometimes get this error.

Any ideas as this is seriously bugging me  It's probably something stupid, audio CDs worked fine under Gentoo and my SuSE live cd.. Thanks :) [edit] and this is at the bottom of dmesg output, not sure if it's relevant Code:
devfs_mk_dev: could not append to parent for vcc/7 |
Fixed, probably not via the best method but it works now.

DJ P@CkMaN, please try to say more than the fact that you've fixed the problem. It's far more useful to find out what you've learnt about what could be causing the problem, and what sort of solution you have found.
There's nothing more annoying to a someone who's searching these forums than to find out that someone else has their exact same problem, has fixed it, and hasn't said how. |
I am having the same kind of problem myself. Running FC3 and I am curious what you did to resolve the problem. I would really appreciate having you post some details.

I had a similar problem and solved it by using udev instead of devfs.
I never fixed the devfs problem though. I would like to see the solution also =/ If i could remember the details of installing udev i would post them here but i dont, so google it and im sure you'll find a howto (probably better than what i would have wrote anyway) :) I use gentoo anyway so the steps would be a bit different :P |
Sorry, just chmodded the device to 0777. That's why I didn't post it because you'd all probably tell me how bad it was :p But it's not running sshd or apache or anything like that so I'm not really too scared.

A better solution might be to add your login user to the group that owns /dev/ide/host0/bus1/target1/lun0/cd
