Unhappy CDROM and patition icon problems

I am new to linux, so I will try to expain my problem in the best way I can.

1) First, I am wanting to make a short cut to my linux partition on my KDE desktop in Red Hat 8.0 with one of those HD icons that I have seen in various distros.

2) Also, in my control panel, block devices I have both of my drives showing up (CDROM & CDRW both IDE drives) However, only one drive is showing up on my desktop. It is the same drive that is showing up under SCSI in the control panel (the drive showing up is the CDRW)

3) Both CD drives are mounting when data cd's are inserted, but mp3's are not working right. It starts the music player, and has the following error in the player display "Eject". It will not mount with mp3 cd's..that maybe a needed codec I guess, dunno.

I need step by step help with all of these problems. I know how to get to root in shell, so that is not a problem to fix these problems..just need exact directions.

Thanks guys

Right-click on Desktop> Create new> Hard disk> select the proper device under Device tab> OK.

Same way for adding cd drive icons.

I think auto-mounting won't show its icon until a disc is inserted.

mp3 isn't supported out of the box with RH8 as RH doesn't want to be the test bed of lawsuits filed by recording organisations. You could add it yourself. Go to www.google.com and search mp3 in the groups.

One problem though

The only drives that I have the option to put up are my cdrom, cdrw, swap file partition and floppy. For some reason the other partitions won't show up as an option for some reason. What might be my options?

thanks
