CD-RW drive fails to mount in Gentoo properly.

Gah! I don't get it. I can't mount my cd-rw drive unless there is a regular CD with data on it. I can't take it out until I unmount the drive, and if I try to mount it with nothing or a blank CD, it tells me this:
/dev/hdc: Input/output error
mount: you must specify the filesystem type

My fstab file is this (without comments):
/dev/hda1 /boot ext2 noauto,noatime 1 2
/dev/hda2 none swap sw 0 0
/dev/hda3 / ext3 noatime 0 1
/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrw auto noauto,user 0 0
/dev/hdd /mnt/dvd auto noauto,user 0 0

none /proc proc defaults 0 0

none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0

If you need anything else, just ask. I'm running Gentoo 1.4 from stage 2, and its a 52x24x52x CD-RW Drive released by Micro Advantage. Please Help. I'm a with Gentoo.

1)If you remove a cd,floppy,... always make sure that it is unmounted or you data will become corrupt (i guess )

2)you can't mount a blanc cd because there is no filesystem on the cd ...
Once you burned your cd there will be a filesystem and you can mount the cd.
