cd rom drives/burners

Hi. My current cd burner is ghetto. I need to hold it in when i put a cd in or else it will pop back out. So i need to buy a new one but wanted to know if compatibility issues with linux. Like any brand i should steer away from? Any recommended? Also i haven't been able to get my dvd drive open for i don't remember how long. Has anyone else had this problem and was able to fix it? or do i just need to get a new one of those as well?

nothing with specilized drivers. theres really not much of a compatibilaty issue here, a cd/dvd drive/burner shouldnt need special drivers.

edit: read the part about dvd drive. there should be a tiny (roughly paperclib sized) hole in it. its paperclip sized for a reason =P. stick one in the hole, and push. it should pop right open

well i can get it open with the clip, but i don't see the point. If i put anything there the busy light doesn't come on, so i don't think it has no power going to it. Also on the subject of cd drives mine won't read music cds, i've tried mounting them. Do i need to open a music program and try accessing the drive that way?

You can not mount audio CDs because they do not contain a valid filesystem. Configure the CD player to use the drives device ID.

There is cdfs but it doesn't work with the latest 2.6 kernels.
