CD/DVD burner for Linpus Aspire One

Does anyone know of a readily compatible CD/DVD burner fo an Acer Aspire One with the Linpus Lite OS? Failing that, a CD burner.

I would have thought that with the enormous number of Aspire Ones with the Linpus OS someone might have tripped over something that will readily work.

Thanks.

Which Model?

Any modern CD/DVD writer should work fine on any Linux.
Install k3B.

You can opt in for an external usb DVD writer.

I just used the Inland 08412 adapter and a DVD burner I had laying around.

The Acer Aspire One was able to boot from media in that drive. so I could use a Live CD, gparted, or a Linux Install CD. I never did try burning with it but I don't see where ti would be an issue. I can't speak for Linpus because at the first opportunity (as soon as I got it home) I reloaded mine with Debian Lenny.

No it's not a pretty or permanent solution, but it was inexpensive and allowed me to leverage hardware I already owned.

Hi,

I like the Memorex cd/dvd external drives for their price and reliability. I picked up a Memorex external Dual layer 16X DVD +/-R drive for around $20.00.

But a good external ide adapter would make a excellent item to have on hand when you need to work on some other IDE device. I find external cases from vendors to be another good choice.

I keep at least two such interface adapters on my bench all the time. Recovery and hdd/cd/dvd work and these have paid for themselves 10X over for client work.

Thanks again for replies.

Gary,

I presume an IDE adapter a physical device that is connected between the dvd/cd player/burner and the netbook PC into the USB port. Are these universal, as in just drop into a Fryes electronics store and "pick one" - or am I looking for one specific to Linux?

Hi,

Fryes might have them. You can get them online.
