CD drive not found after recompiling kernel

I recently upgraded my kernel from 2.6.3-7 to 2.6.4. After that the CD drive stopped working.

when i do: mount /mnt/cdrom
this comes...

/dev/hdc: Input/output error
mount: /dev/hdc: can't read superblock

I'm using Mandrake 10.0

Two stupid ideas:

1) Is there a CD in the drive? Is the CD ok?

2) What is the corresponding entry in /etc/fstab?

$cd /usr/src/(your kernel source tree) && cat .config | grep CONFIG_ISO9660
