Question CD Burner Works in XP, not in Kubuntu. Get Non-Descript Errors

I have a problem with my cd-burner. It is a Philips DVD Writer w/ LightScribe, connected to the PC via a USB 2 IDE box. Iḿ sure you know the type... When using it I dont have any problems burning a cd in XP. *But I HATE* having to use xp to do stuff like this because Linux is just so much better!

When I use cdrecord fromn the command line I get:

:~# cdrecord --scanbus
Cdrecord-Clone 2.01.01a03 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2005 Joerg Schilling
NOTE: this version of cdrecord is an inofficial (modified) release of cdrecord
and thus may have bugs that are not present in the original version.
Please send bug reports and support requests to <cdrtools@packages.debian.org>.
The original author should not be bothered with problems of this version.

cdrecord: Warning: Running on Linux-2.6.17-10-generic

cdrecord: If you have unexpected problems, please try Linux-2.4 or Solaris.

Has this got something to do with it being usb? And if it is what could I do to solve this?

Ive been using Linux for about a year now and Ie never had this problem before using this drive. I used the same drive with a Fedora distro, can remember which, quite successfully burning discs every day.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance.
