CD audio troubles

I'm not sure if this is a hardware or a software issue, so I'll post it in both:

When ever I try to play an audio cd (the drive is a Creative 12x PC-DVD), the software (XMMS, KsCD, etc) recognizes the disc and lists the tracks, and appears to be playing the CD, but I hear no audio. My audio cables are all connected correctly, and I have no trouble playing mp3s, mpeg videos, DVDs, etc.

sound

I have the same problem as a previous poster. No sound...when loading i'll hit the F2 Verbose mode and watch the sound driver load. I'll insert CD and the player lists artist and tracks....but no sound. I willl try changing cables tonight and see what happens.
I have Linux SuSE 8.2 loaded on a separate drive. My sound card is an Audigy 2 with 5.2 speakers surround sound. Could that be the problem. In linux how does one change the sound settings? Thank you in advance

My card's a fairly recent (bought in the past year) Creative Live! card, so I doubt that's the problem, especially since RedHat recognized it automatically. I hadn't thought about the cable thing. I'll try that. Sound setting (in RH 9 at least) are accessed through the sound mixer under "Sound & Video" in the taskbar menu (not sure what the technical term for that is. I have a feeling I'd get some flames if I had the audacity to call it a "Start" menu!)

Are you sure you have an audio cable from the CD device to the CD audio input on the sound card? Failure to do this gives the EXACT same result as yours.
