Hey ya'll
I got a Maxtor OneTouchII external formatted into two drives, one fat32 and the other ext3 - I can mount it fine when i hook it up via USB (it shows up at /dev/sda5 & /dev/sda6). However, I only have USB 1.1, so mounting it via firewire would be nicer. Unfortunatly, it looks like the sbp2 driver isn't creating a valid block device.

I'm running Slackware 10.1, freshly installed off the cd (I updated firefox and nothing else), with kernel 2.4.31

dmesg produces the following:

which basically means nothing to me. Anyone able to help me out, either with what I should mount, or what I could add to my fstab?

Found one possible solution - apparently the ohci1394 and ieee1394 modules were updated in kernels later than 2.4.4. So, I'm going to update my kernel and see if that doesn't help anything.

If anyone cares, there is a guide out there I'm following now that walks you through mounting a firewire drive from start to finish. I can't post the URL (since I don't have five posts yet?) but if you google ("linux and firewire" Weizmann) it's the first thing that crops up.

yeah, got it working fine. Slackware shiped with 2.6.13 on the second cd (though it wasn't an option during install) so a few installpkg's later and I was rolling. The firewire drive loaded no problem, both partitions showed up fine, and everything is hunky-dory.
