Recently I have not been able to mount a CD. I can play music CD's but not browse a CD with files, pictures and so forth. I cannot even install programs via Mandrake Control center as it cannot find the CD.
I have tried as root: mount /mnt/cdrom and got the answer;
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on none,
or too many mounted file systems
My /etc/fstab file looks like this;
none /mnt/cdrom supermount dev=/dev/scd0,fs=auto,unhide,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-
1,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0
When trying to install a program via Mandrake Control Center I get the error message;
"Please insert the medium named "Installation CD 1 (x86) (cdrom1) on device [/dev/scd0]"
this after having inserted the CD and clicking OK.
I know that this particular CD is OK as I recently did an installation from it on another computer.
This problem arose in connection with me trying NFS. I have since uninstalled all packages but to no avail.
Hoping someone can give some suggestions what to do. Life is hard without a CDROM :-)
1) Are you using a SCSI cd-rom drive (or SCSI emulation)? If it is IDE, you should be using /dev/hd(x) instead of scd0.
2) If you have changed kernels recently, is iso9660 listed in /proc/filesystems ?
No I am using a regular DVD writer on an IDE interface.
I noticed another mount point for the CD-ROM named cdrecorder. Its /etc/fstab entry is;
/dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/cd /mnt/cdrecorder auto ro,noauto,user,e
xec 0 0
I have no idea where it came from but I can mount the CD from here and browse its contents.
I would like to have only one mount point for a CD but as each /fstab entry is fairly different I don't know what to do.
OK, sounds like you're running an older kernel with SCSI emulation for the burner - that's fine. If you only want one mount point, and the second one you listed works properly, just remove the first one. Don't delete it entirely (in case you need to use or refer to it in the future), just comment it out by putting a # at the start of the line. Also, feel free to change the mount point to something you like better - if you prefer /mnt/cdrom to /mnt/cdrecorder, just change it and it will mount there in the future.
