Hi -
Thanx for your update. In the future, please simply "reply". That way everbody benefits

Q: What is your OS and OS version?
A: Linux Slackware 11
Q: What is your PC make/model?
A: EPIA MII12000
Q: What is your CDRW make/model?
A: Mitsumi CR-4808TE
Q: What exactly is this "software"?
Where did you get it?
How did you install it?
A: The company that I work for uses Slackware 11 (Linux version 2.6.21.5-smp) to build a Data Collection Module (DCM). I used our standard install disk (CD) in this Mitsumi CDRW drive. Now that I have partitioned the HDD and put the file system on it, the mount command errors that /dev/cdrom does not exist. I can run "cdrecord -scanbus" and it finds the CDRW.
Q: Did you notice any warnings/errors when you tried to install it?
A: None.
Q: How exactly are you trying to mount it?
A: Command "mount cdrom"
<= cut/paste your exact command, if you're not using a GUI
Q: What errors/warnings are you getting?
A: mount: can't find cdrom in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab
<= cut/paste any messages
Q: Are there any warnings in /var/log/messages (assuming this PC
is running Linux) realted?
A: It seems that /var/log/messages shows that the drivers were loaded for the CDRW
<= If so, please cut/paste these

Anyway, I don't have Slackware, and I've never experienced this problem...
... but it looks like all you need to do is create a couple of "symbolic links"
