Hi. I'm new in Linux. I installed Slackware 9.0 a couple of days ago and I can't make my wireless network card to work. The card is US Robotics 2216. Does anyone know if it is supported by Linux? Is there a driver I can get from somewhere? Thanks

Possibly, the most important part is what's the read straight off og the card, I'm going to assume its PCI:

/sbin/lspci

and post back whatever it says under "Ethernet Controller"

Hi. Sorry for the incomplete info. Yes, it is a pci card. I just found that is based on the texas instruments chipset. The distro I'm using is Slackware 9.0 and the kernel bare.i.
The output of /sbin/lspci was

Ethernet controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS900 10/100 Ethernet (rev 02)
Network Controller: Texas Instruments ACX 100 22Mbps Wireless Interface

I assume the second is the one I want (I have 2 network cards but I use the wireless). Thanks a lot

The wireless card is the nasty TI acx100 chipset, check the thread at the top of hardware for more info. Also, www.houseofcraig.net a member here, has a pretty good write-up on it. TI refused to release driver specs, but some little company out of tiawan wrote a linux driver and later pulled it when they got their hand slapped by TI. There's also a blackbox ground-up peek and poke driver out there too, both are linked to from:

http://acx100.sourceforge.net

When I got the driver to load for slack 9.0, I think I used the mangled SuSe 8.2 driver, whichever is cert'ed to work with 2.4.20 and gcc 3.2-ish. This little bugger is a mess though, and the open source driver is still rather alpha, it might be better to swap cards.

Hi. Thanks for your help. I downloaded the driver and when I try to compile (as root) I get a message like

make execvp : ./compile ermision denied

try chmod +x configure

I tryed that and when I want to do ./configure I'm getting a message like

: bad interpreter : No such a file or directory

bad interpreter... what the heck...

What's the first line of the file named "configure"

#!/bin/bash perchance? The first line is pointing to a different location for a shell then where you have it on your system. So you have to match the location of the interpreter with the first line of the configure script.

It's probably better if I compile it for you on my slack9 box and post it for download, I was going to put it up on my site anyway, I'll post back when I've got it ready for you, I'll go ahead and download/separate the firmware for that card too. Instructions will follow..
