can't attach scanner HP Deskjet 6200C scsi

Scanner scsi deskjet 6200C used to work nicely on either debian i386 or amd64 on two different computers. Now, with both, same error messages. On the 32 bit machine:

francesco@machinename:/dev$

i.e., there is the process, the scanner chip is detected, while the scanner is not attached. No "sg" on /dev.

I have changed the scsi cable with same results. I tried also as superuser with same results. The scanner lamp is lighted.

There is a usb port on the scanner although it must be an obsolete version, it never worked.

Thanks for advice

The scanner is supported with this backend. -->http://www.kirchgessner.net/sane.html

Do you have it installed?
