Canon PIXMA IP4200 printer - works on rpm based but not ubuntu
Firstly at last Canon has recognised us Linux users and provided drivers including source code for the IP4200. At least they have on the European and Japanese web sites. These work well under some distros, but I've not been able to get them to work under Ubuntu.
So has anyone been able to get the Canon IP4200 to work under Ubuntu with the Canon Drivers? The packages are supplied as rpms, with instructions for Fedora and SuSe, I installed it with no problems under Mandriva, but have been unsuccessful using Ubuntu. I would like to get this working under Ubuntu. Info on getting the printer to work with Mandriva - on my blog The driver is available to download from the European site at: http://software.canon-europe.com/sof...302.asp?model= I installed the packages using Code:
alien -i *.rpm I did get errors (in the log - and sometimes displayed in the printer properties): Quote:
I've also tried compiling these from source, although it didn't make any differences (I'm not 100% sure that it completely replaced the binary drivers). The printer does work using TurboPrint, but that's £20, which I'd rather donate towards some open source project rather than funding proprietary drivers. I'd be grateful if anyone can give some help with this. |
Solved - Canon IP4200 Ubuntu
I've now managed to get the Canon printer drivers working on Ubuntu. I'm posting the details in case it helps others.
I found the details in the Ubuntu Wiki at: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CanonPixmaIP4200 Details were provided by Steven Bell about a week after I posted this thread. I've also created a review of the Canon IP4200 for Linux |
