Canon PIXMA ip1900

To start. I know Canon is not the best option for a printer, but this one was a gift, so I wanted to give it a try.
I am not that new to Linux, started with Fedora, than Ubuntu, Slackware 12 and now the 13 version.
What's my problem:
Is there a way to configure this printer on Slack. The Canon website gave me only deb and rpm files (tried them, no way hose). Tried to get info at and they did provide information about a driver on a similar model iP19850: Simply use Xeros driver instead. It didn't work either. Then I tried a ppd file from Canon. And big nothing, too. It seems Cups is recognizing the printer, but it can't send messages to it.

I just wonder, If someone here worked with this or similar Canon printer, and got it work properly.

Thank You for the answers.

Ok Nevermind. It's working properly now.
Started today with a fresh mind (sometimes it's only that what you need), and:
1. Downloaded again the drivers from Canon -> the rpm package
2. Untar it.
3. rpm2tgz *.rpm files
4. installpkg them
5. restarted cups
6. Added the printer in cups (the ppd file was there, now!)
7 Everything is working properly now
