Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Cannot Transfer Files with USB and Wifi Card Issues

Hi, i recently put morphix linux on my old dell.
It boots up just fine (i have it on a dual boot with XP Pro)
The wireless card (a WG311T Netgear PCI adapter) works just fine with the windows driver and such.

I browsed through the forum and found i needed madwifi driver to make it work. I downloaded that on my other computer and put it on a USB Flash Drive. Now, how do i take this file off the Flash drive and install it.
I tried using the root command /dev/sda1 to find the file and that didn't work either.

I am a little green still with linux so very clear instruction would be very appreciated.

(also if u can give me a hand with the commands needed to compile the drive and install it, that would be really helpful)
http://madwifi.org/wiki/UserDocs/FirstTimeHowTo
cause only the information from the site above it what i have to work with now.

I checked more into the hardware compatibility list, is it possible that linux would be able to recognize only certain flash drives?

I have a 1G attache that some ppl says it will work, my new 4 gig Kingston is relatively new so that could be the problem.

Thanks.

Have you tried mounting it?

Try this as root:

mount /dev/sda1 /media/USB

make sure /media/USB actually exists before trying this command. To be honest it should automatically recognise and mount it.

You can get detailed instructions on installing madwifi in Slackware here:

The usb flash drive should mount automatically. Mine does. If not, mounting it manually should work. Just create a mount point for it and mount it as Doobie said.

That's not a command, it's a file that tells Linux how the device can be used.
