To michaelk : his mountpoint is not /mnt/sda1.

OKay, i figured it was supposed to be empty... and I do have the directory /bin/mount.

and as having fstab setup properly do you mean. as in the mount point?

and since I am using the rc.local do I have to tell fstab to auto or will it automatically load w/o fstab saing to since rc.local will tell it to automount?

Alright! Finally, adding:

#!/bin/sh
mount /mnt/sda1

to /etc/init.d/rc.local mounted the hard drive perefectly on boot no matter what the settings of fstab.
