Cannot load driver

Well after about a week of building new computer and running Windows XP Professional, I got fed up. So many security holes! Ran to the bookstore and snagged Fedora distro.

I have a precompiled driver for my onboard SATA controller (1st party). VIA VT8237 South Bridge. The file is viamraid.o. Isn't this what I need to use prior to and after Linux installataion to HDs? I formated a floppy to FAT and put just the one file on. During installation, HD's are not recognized. I tried to install the driver. Insert floppy, press ok. The installation cannot seem to find/implement the driver. So, it just prompts me again for a driver.

What is the proper procedure to use the driver before and after installation?
