Unhappy Cannot install d-link gigabit 530T LAN

I have not been able to install a D-Link 10/100/1000 LAN (530T) on my system (RedHat 9 kernel 2.4.20). I have tried the software that comes with the CD and also downloaded form the site. But there are no instructions on where and how to install.
Could anybody tell me where I should install (/ or root or etc?). I am a newbie and dont know very much.
Your help will be most appreciated.
Chandrika

Seems like a couple of members have been getting other problems as well in the HCL

Although running such an old kernel version isn't going to make things easier.
