cannot find valid hard drives

Hi all!!
I have an 80 GB hard disk and windows2000 pro.installed on 10 Gb and the other being free.
When I try to install RedHat9, after passing the initial steps it gets stuck at the partitioning saying that "no valid harddrives were found.. Please check your hardware".
The I checked up BIOS setup, to find that the computer has four IDE slots(4 M/s) with the hard disk on the third master, primary master being CDROM.
So could this be a problem ? The point here is that I cannot open my PC since it is under warranty.
So anyone please help out..I am missing Linux a lot .... :(

Hi,

If you have only a single hard disk, then are you sure that you made the partition information on the hard disk yourself ? if you tried out "Parition automatically", then it is better to try out manual partition with druid, so that you can atleast know at the first place, where the partitions are actually being made ....

If you are convinced that the partition is actually being made in your hard disk only, then I am not sure about the problem ...it may even be serious ....but if that is not happening, then make sure that you make all your partitions only in the hard disk you have ...

Hope this guides..

Regards.

Hi Vijay !
Thanks for replying .
I have a single harddisk(80GB), and it previously had NTFS file sys tem with Win XP. Then I installed win2000 pro, after partitioning the disk into 10 and 70 GB with FAT32 filesystem, with the win2000pro installation CD, and then on the 10 GB i installed win2000 pro.
The remaining was left for Linux.
As u mentioned I tried partitioning manuallywith Disk Druid too but to get the same error message"No hard drives found.."etc.
As i mentioned in my first post I have my hard disk connected to the third IDE slot according to the BIOS information.
Could this lead to problems ?
If so, are there any ways to circumvent this problem.
regards,
