Does anyone have a solution to this problem please.
Hi all, I live in Australia and I am restricted to dial up internet. I have just installed Ubuntu on dual boot with XP. I am new to linux, and this site, and I cannot connect to the internet. I have an internal 56 k Modem. It is an ESS Es56h. Driver is Ver. 5.43.58.1. Ubuntu recognises the modem but I am not able to connect with it. My ISP,Optus Australia, does not support Linux. The modem works fine with XP and i am connected in this O/S.
Unfortunately, I am stumped in getting connected in Ubuntu.
Any help or suggestions would be greatfully appreciated. I like the looks of Ubuntu and I am anxious to move away from Uncle Bill's Software. Please help.

I'm not familiar with Ubuntu but do have Mepis so maybe this will be close. Go applications - internet - configure and then look for kppp or kinternet. Fill in your username, password, phone number, and Query the modem. If you find the modem maybe all you'll have to do from this point is connect.
