Cannot change volume for USB Audio card

Hi,

I recently acquired a USB sound card. Though it works on Linux I cannot change the volume of the card; which means I can set it to "Extremely Loud" or "No soud".

When I use the alsamixer on the built in card of my laptop, it all works fine. The USB card powers on around volume 8 and that's it. Alsamixer only lists PCM as volume.

Reason I want to use the USB card is that it has a much better sound quality.

The output of lsusb:

Bus 003 Device 003: ID 1130:f211 Tenx Technology, Inc.
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 004 Device 002: ID 145f:011a
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
The output of uname -r

2.6.22.18-0.2-default
I'm running OpenSuSE 10.3. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Many thanks in advance.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. This will allow me to choose the right card on startup. (Use the USB card if it's plugged in; otherwise use the built in card). Unfortunately I still cannot control the volume of the USB card.

The slider in the alsamixer still works in "binary mode".

Then there may be some problem with the device or the kernel module used to control it.
Maybe try a search for "1130:f211 Tenx Technology" ?

Managed a little

Well, I believe that I managed to get it working a little bit by adding the parameters
Code:
async_unlink=1 nrpacks=10
to the module. I believe that I can now get the difference between loud and very loud in about 2 mixer steps.

I guess my card just does not support it properly.

Thanks for the help.
