Cannot automount or manual mount a blank CD in KDE in Fedora 10

Hi Guys,

So with GNOME everything works great. However, when I use KDE I get the following error when putting a blank disk in the CDROM:

cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!
end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0
Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0
end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0
Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0

I have tried to add my user name to the disk group - didn't work. I noticed that people said I need to add my user name to the cdrom group but such a group does not exist in Fedora 10. Even when I switch to root I cannot mount a blank CD.

Any ideas??? It must be something to do with permission I believe even though its retarded because everything works great with GNOME

Well, KDE is a nice Desktop environment but I don't really have to use it. I can leave with GNOME just fine.

Thanks for your help.

Why do you want to mount a BLANK CD...??

By definition, it is impossible to mount a blank CD or DVD... "mounting" means you want to read the data on the disc, and per defintion, a blank disk has no data or filing system on it...?

Also, you can't mount an audio CD. A data CD uses the iso9660 filesystem.

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to let you know that I figured it out. I had to add myself to the 'disk' group which owns the device /dev/sr0. Then using 'cdrecord' I was able to burn data.
Thank you for the replies. I hope that my subject "mounting a blank CD" will not confuse other people.

WINDOWS VISTA SUCKS....sorry I had to say that :-)))))

Thanks again
