Can you recommend an external USB sound device?

I have a laptop with AC97 internal audio. It works fine, but I don't have a stereo line-in. I have a Creative Audigy 2 NX USB audio device but I haven't been able to get it to work - although some people have managed it, it still seems awkward and kludgey.

So all I need is a standard device, which has the usual (stereo line in, line out, mic., etc.). I don't need anything fancy like surround sound. Do you have a recommendation for a good-quality easy-setup USB audio device?

System:
Gericom P4 3060 laptop
SiS7012 AC97-compatible internal audio (I can disable this in the BIOS if necessary)
Fedora Core 3 (kernel 2.6.12-1.1376_FC3smp)

Thanks,

Hellwyn.

This looks like a useful summary (and not too old):

Thanks, maroonbaboon. It seems that the best device is the Audiotrak Maya EX5 (http://www.audiotrak.de/eng/mayaex5.html), but sadly this is not made any more and is quite hard to find. The new model, the EX7, has no inputs! D'oh!
