Can only read DVDs or CDs, not both

I have an asus cd/dvd rom, and i have a little problem which is very troublsome. I can read both cd/dvd, but not during the same boot. For example, i will start my system up with no disk in, and i will then insert a CD, and it will read it just fine, however when i try and insert a dvd, it does not show any files (it dose not give a mount error, it just acts like there is no disk in what so ever. Well anyway, if i want the drive to read the dvd, i have to reboot with that dvd in, and then if i try and swich to a differnt dvd, it dosent see it either (switching to a cd has about a 50% chance of success.)
So to sum everything up, how do i get my drive to read all CD's and DVD's without having to reboot each time.

Thanx

Unless your automount-sg is working properly, you will have to:

umount /mnt/dvd
mount /mnt/dvd

When you remove or add a CD/DVD. Did you try this?
