Can laptop CD drive be replaced by a HDD?

An Acer Ferrari 4005wlmi laptop has the following CD/DVD IDE drive with a thickness of about 13 mm:

Can this be replaced by an IDE 2.5'' HDD?

If an adaptor of some kind is required, where do I get one?

Details of the rest of the system: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2476

Note the statement about being only 9.5mm thick. This tells me it will physically fit. The connector will surely be different, but it is certainly possible to make an adapter.

I think there's a good chance someone has made an adapter----Uncle Google will know.....

Thanks. Laptop's drive is about 13mm thick externally, correcting the first post.

I'm confused about IDE sockets, what would they look like in this laptop?

Here's a picture from another product:

For starters, look at the plug on your CD/DVD.

Seems to me there are some outfits selling laptop parts. Regardless, it may take a bit of Googling to ID the various connectors.

Finally a 12.7mm caddy to replace the CD drive with an ide hard disk, here it is:

http://www.accessory4you.com/adapter...a/127i-i-1.jpg

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/290439320185

But there is also the following better one that takes SATA 1.5 Gb/s hard disks:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/290439320177

Where do I find the fastest SATA I hard drive in existence?

Sure. We are giving such links for the benefit of each other.

I'm marking this as solved, even though it is not a math problem or some trivial configuration setting but a real-life problem that may have more facets not discussed yet and where people might wish to add something.
