can i use this line for audio recording?

hi folks

i was wondering how i can make audio recording from TV or radio using my suse9.1 box.
which software and hardware can i use ?

when i bought my desktop i recieved this curious cable in the package
which i guess is for audio input and output but i am not sure of it
one end is yellow and fits into a slot in my TV(the video-in-audio slot)
and the other is just like any of the normal earphone line end
can i make use of this cable ?
