can i run two different video cards?

Can i run the drivers for a nvidia card and an ati based card at the same time, in order to plug two monitors into my computer? I can't try it out because i'm deciding if i should buy another video card or not.

I know it can be done, however i'm not the geek to ask, but i have seen multi-card multi-monitor setups, even to the point of when cutting/pasting from one monitor to the other it carries over seamlessly. good luck, the main point is getting the two cards on different irq's and io's most cards only allow irq 11, that is the only major sticky point i see in your future
