Can I ruin my monitor by using a generic driver?

Mandrake Linux has a driver specifically for my KDS XF-7b monitor. However, Suse has no specific driver for my monitor. Thus, I need to use a generic driver for my CRT monitor. I am concerned that extended use of this driver could eventually damage my monitor or graphics chip. Nevertheless, the visual output with the generic driver seems just fine.

Can I ruin my monitor or graphics chip by using a generic driver?

Thank you in advance for your help.

IMHO, I don't think a generic driver will damage your monitor or your VGA card.

However, once while using the VESA driver, I used a resolution unsupported by my monitor and X didn't load. But this problem was quickly solved by one of my local LUG members at an install-fest.

Long Live The LUG's,
