Can I replace old Compaq SCSI drive with Fujitsu?

Hi,

We have several old Compaq ML350 servers with 18G ultra3 10,000rpm scsi drives. These are G1 servers and altough they work fine space is huge issue and we have to upgrade. I did make a call to HP but their drives are extremely expensive. I can buy more than double ammount of storage from Fujitsu for same money.

My qestion is. Can I insert Fujitsu ULTRA320 drives instead of COMPAQ(HP) ULTRA320. Is there anything like different voltage of whatever that I have to worry? Both disk's are ULTRA320 - 68pin 10,000k. Otherwise we are preaty much stuck with those Compaq servers cause all upgrades are tooooo expensive.

they should work, obviously backup all data before attempting disk upgrades.

Honestly, I can't say for your particular computer, but my final miserable experience with Digital/Compaq scsi disk drives drove me away from them forever. Had a DEC Alpha with UW scsi and no drive not sold by them would work. I spent 2 weeks trying and returning drives, actually damaged one of them so it was unusable.

Digital/Compaq's support told me that they have modified firmware in the drive so its not compatable. I asked him why... he said so they work (in a snotty way). I said ya sure since everyone knows scsi drives don't actually work in other brands of computers.

Turned out to be cheaper to build a new computer and get rid of the Alpha, than it was to replace the hard drive.

Good luck though.
