Can anyone please tell me if i can install a linux-based firmware on DIR-635 router?
 

Hi, sorry if i'm asking this question in the wrong place...
i have a D-Link DIR-635 version:B1 and i was wandering if there is a linux-based firmware that can be installed on.

I thought D-link used Linux Based Firmware already.

Have you checked the dd-wrt, openwrt, or tomato FAQ's regarding supported hardware?

For instance, dd-wrt's router database lists this model as "not possible" (as opposed to either "work in progress" or "supported") so it's doubtful one of the other linux-based router firmware distributions will work on it, either.

Yes, I have checked all u have mentioned but none is suitable to my device...that's why I am requesting other people knolodge.
So, if anyone else knows about anything else to help please inform me.

I doubt it's possible, then. Most of the open-source linux-based router firmware distributions require a hardware platform/standard capable of being reflashed (usually Broadcom- or Atheros-based chipsets).

I think I remember hearing the recent DLink routers have some pretty nice features, but are *not* compatible with anything other than DLink-provided firmware.

If you're really interested in trying something like dd-wrt out I would recommend purchasing a recent Linksys listed to be compatible (ex: WRT160N) , if you need Wireless-N support, or an older WRT54G if you only need Wireless-G.

Thx very much, the problem is that i just got my new router..as a gift, so i can't buy a new one. Don't get me wrong, i'm very satisfied with it in comparison to my old one, i just wanted to try something differend.
