Because you can't mount media cd's like music cd's, dvd's.. etc. Only data cd's can be mounted.

What program are you trying to use to rip from the cd ??

I am tryign to use Grip.I select the tracks I wish to rip and set how I wan them encoded. Then It goes through real fast (seconds) and pops the disc out but it doesn't rip it.

Ok I can rip them and encode as root. I added my user to the cd and disk accounts but still couldn't rip them any idea what account I would need to be in to rip them as a regular user?

No, but I'd check the perm's on the device, and also the config tab and make sure you have write-ability to that directory in the encode sub tab, the line should read:
~/mp3/%A/%n.ogg

Notice the ~ everything after that is whatever you want, but that is the directory things are ripped/encoded to. ~ means your home directory, so that's why I use it.

Cool

Thanx. I am unable to play oggs in xmms. Where would I check to make sure that the ogg code is availbale for xmms to use? That is probably not the right term for this.

You probably just need to download/install a plugin from www.xmms.org or maybe www.vorbis.com

Not sure though, because I have no problems on a default Slack install playing them.

If you have ogg support, most likely you should have these in your /usr/bin and /usr/lib :

/usr/bin/ogg123
/usr/bin/oggenc
/usr/bin/ogginfo
/usr/lib/libogg.a
/usr/lib/libogg.la
/usr/lib/libogg.so.0.3.0
/usr/lib/libogg.so
/usr/lib/libogg.so.0

If xmms can't play them, most likely you probably don't have support or don't have it installed.

I searched and I have

libogg.so.0
libogg.so.04.0

Is ther other stuff just there for xmms to support oggs?

I can play my oggs with

ogg123 -v -z /usr/share/mp3

I am ok with this but just curious why xmms wouldn't play them.

Thanx
