Can't Install Canon NZ i250 Drivers

I am trying to get my Canon i250 printer working with Suse Linux 9.1. I have downloaded drivers from the Canon NZ site and tried to install them.

The install process indicates dependencies on libglade.so.o and libxml.so.1.

I have libglade2 and libxml2 installed.

Is there a way to get the missing files and can I install them without conflicting with the versions installed?

Thanks

I am a total newbie. I downloaded the NZ Canon files and extracted them. I don't have a clue as to how to install them in Red Hat 9 and there is no text file to guide me. Red Hat finds and identifies the printer but says there are no drivers. How do I proceed. This is my first time installing Linux and everything works great except I can't print.

I am a newbie myself so I just installed the RPM packages using YAST (setup tool for Suse). I'm sure Red Hat has a similar tool but I'm not familiar with it.

As a newbie - I had trouble sorting out what need to be installed of the 6 +/- things on the site. I just installed the 2 rpm items (one of which has 3 versions and I used the latest for it).

I did get my problem fixed by updating my libglade file and the printer works great.

There is a good thread on this site for installing from tar files - http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=256394

Good luck.

I am making some progress on printing. Don't know why I'm doing this. It's why I gave up on CP/M twenty years ago. I downloaded the free Turboprint and got my Canon i250 working although with their rather large logo covering much of the print. I downloaded the rpm's from Canon NZ and they are successfully installed. However, you must register the printer with the "lpadmin" command before CUPS will use it. When I try to run "lpadmin" I get an error message that says that it is an unrecognized command. How can I get past this last little hurdle? I know I'm almost there, but can't quite reach the brass ring. Can anybody help?

I believe that you need to go into cups admin and set up the printer.

I'm not sure if you have a cups password setup. To do this you need to access a shell as root and use the command: lppasswd -a <user name>.

Then, type in the following address in your browser - http://localhost:631/ to get to cups admin -

This will allow you to use the user name and password to access the cups admin tool and set up your printer.

Hope this solves your problem.
