Angry can't find canon pixma ip1000 drivers for linux

I have a CANON Pixma IP1000(just bought it), and when I'm so mad because I can't use it on my linux box. I can't find any driver for this piece of hardware!!!.
Canon doesn't provide linux support for this printer. I know that some models have linux drivers, but I wasn't able to find anything on Internet for THIS printer.
Can anyone point me to a location where I can download the files needed to make my printer work under linux?
Is it possible to use other driver (an equivalent) , maybe one that was designed for a similar printer?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I remember reading somewhere that the i250 driver may work for standard text printing, but knowing Canon's track record with Linux printing, it's a long shot. Poor or non-existant driver support is the main reason I dumped my Canon for a HP.

I'm mostly interested in plain text printing... for the moment. i tried i250 driver but it didn't work. I mean, when I ask for a test page nothing happens: the printer's light starts blinking (i hoped it will print something) but no page came out . I've chosen Canon because they're cheaper to use. I didn't thought I won't find a driver. Thanks

Try the turboprint site again they have added support for both the ip1000 and 3000.

Downloading now

Looks like basic printer functionality is free

I also tried the free edition...I was so happy when I saw the test page coming out. But when I tried a Writer document: disappointment: I can't use the printed pages since the turboprint logo it's also printed...
Form what they wrote on their site, I understood that the free edition is good for home-users, and that only when you want to print hi-resolution pictures or want to use spacial paper their logo will show up!
This is not nice: not to be able to use your own hardware because the manufacturer doesn't care about you!
And it doesn't seem fair to pay for a driver (something you would get for free on Mac or Win)! Canon ought to pay more attention to Linux users. They produced a Mac version for the IP1000 driver but not one for Linux, and from what I know there are more Linux users than Mac users.
Next time, when I choose a printer, I'll be more careful!

Life sucks. Perhaps when more of Europe migrates to Linux we'll be better served .

Just out of interest, did you install the driver from rpm or tar file? I tried to use the rpm on Ubuntu(debian) after running it thru alien but while it went thru the motions all I got at the end was client-error

workaround for ip3000: install canon bjc 7000:
see http://www.linuxprinting.org/piperma...q4/001797.html
It seems to print ok, even in color, and won't cost 35 euro.

A choir of angelic sounding children are exaling you with Beethoven's 9th picobyte.

May the Lords Of Kobol bless you and keep you, and may They stand between you and all the dark places you must go.

(Thanks.)

Try this http://www.linuxprinting.org/forums....l;article=2345

I've installed the TurboPrint drivers first, and now I've found this. It works fine for now.

Since I'm a total newbie I don't ahve a clue how to help you if you don't have a "rpm based" distribution, but there is some other links in that post that may help. The rpm packages are at files.alfansa.org

--EDIT--
P.S. Stupid me, I can see your distribution under your name

Are there any updates on the ip1000? I also have one and I'm migrating from Windows. I emailed customer support a few months back they said drivers will come out for Linux first month next year.
