Can't mount firewire hard drive

Hi,

I'm a newbie trying to mount a firewire hard drive with no luck so far. I'm using Fedora Core 1 with kernel 2.4.22-1.2174.nptl. This used to work fine under mandrake 9.2.

# mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/documents
mount: /dev/sda1 is not a valid block device

When I plug the drive in, i get this message in /var/log/messages:
Feb 23 14:34:51 localhost devlabel: devlabel service started/restarted
Feb 23 14:35:00 localhost kernel: ohci1394_0: SelfID received, but NodeID invalid (probably new bus reset occurred): 0800FFC0

I have no idea where to go from here...any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Michael
