Can't install SuSE 8.2 on Via EPIA mainboard

Trying to install SuSE 8.2 from CD on Via EPIA board.
Grub loads OK, but then we get a blank screen and no activity.
Tried using working installed HDD from anothe machine - same thing.

Booted from Grub in 'Safe Mode' - the text output starts, but fails with
'Kernel Panic ... compiled for Pentium+....'

The easiest solution (which I went for) is to use SuSE 9, which does not have this problem.

The kernel in SuSE 8.2 will not run on the processor (mine is a Via EPIA Nehemiah). You can follow the procedure given in the artilce linked to below to get 8.2 to work, but invovles rebuilding the kernel.
