Hi, I just install Ubuntu for the first time in my PC. I have updated it and everything, but my modem is not working. I looked over the internet and didn't find anything at all. Although Ubuntu says that my modem is perfectly install when I go to Hardware Drivers, it doesn't work. My modem is an Advantek USB Fax Modem, does anyone by any chance knows where I can find any driver for this? or if Ubuntu has it how can I install them.
Advantek website says they don't do linux on the usb modems. Just the pci. Most likely the usb is a crappy winmodem that expects windows to do all the work.
If it's a USB modem, it may not show up as /dev/modem, but rather as /dev/ttyUSB0...just another serial device. Try looking for that device, and use it in your dialer-program, instead of /dev/modem, and see what happens.
