Exclamation can't get my Intel 536EP modem to work in slackware 10.2

I am using Slackware 10.2 and am trying to get my Intel 536ep modem to work.I used the Intel-536EP-4.71 modem drivers. I was able to make clean and then make 536 and it compiled without any error or warning messages but, when I typed make install it gave me the following message: "unknown distribution, no boot scripts loaded"

I have kernel 2.4.x. I really need to get this working. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me out.
