I got a dance mat to play stepmania, that connects via the ps/2 keyboard port to
the pc. It just worked on Ubuntu 6.06 with no intervention of my part, at the same
time that my usb keyboard. The arrows got detected as keyboard arrows, etc.
I installed Fedora Core 6 last month, and when trying the mat, it no longer works,
there are no keyboard strikes detected. I unplugged it, plugged an PS/2 Keyboard
and it didn't work. I shut down the pc, unplugged the usb keyboard, plugged the PS/2
and the machine detect's it up to bios, but after booting it no longer works. So
I assume linux is not detecting any ps/2 device on the keyboard port. (Haven't tried
if is the same for the mouse port, I use a usb mouse.)
Is there a way to force linux to detect a ps/2 keyboard? When I use Kudzu to detect
everything in the psaux bus, I only get the pcspeaker reported. I'd rather not reinstall,
as is a pain. I also can't find device /dev/psaux.
Thanks in advance, If more info is needed I can provide.
Fedora is becoming well known for this type of problem. I'm guessing that you're running Linux kernel 2.6.19 or greater.
Fedora has had a lot of problems recognizing any PS/2 devices, not just your special mat. The easiest solution seems to be downgrading to a 2.6.18 kernel.
If you are running a kernel 2.6.18 or earlier, then disregard my advise.
You may be right, as I had a lot of trouble managing vmware server to
run, I needed to apply a special patch for kernel 2.6.19.
I could downgrade kernel, but how about going the other way? I't shouldn't be better if I update to the latest kernel.org's kernel?
I don't really know for sure. I would think that compiling Linux2.6.19 from kernel.org should work, but there might be a (small) chance that the problem is in some program outside of the kernel. If it doesn't work, then you wasted all that time configuring and compiling. It's up to you.
